  • Shadows Falling On Bandon Beach

    Shadows Falling On Bandon Beach

I liked the way these long shadows led my eye across the beach to the rocks. The black and white processing helps to emphasize the shapes and shadows.

  • Boom!

    Boom!

A storm the previous day produced large swells which crashed against the rocks at Shore Acres. Even though we were wearing ponchos we were wet. The crashing sound and flying mist were exhilarating though, and I had a rain cover for my camera.

  • Driftwood with Face Rock

    Driftwood with Face Rock

This huge piece of driftwood had disappeared the next day.

  • Hidden Waterfall

    Hidden Waterfall

This is a long exposure to get the water to blur. The fall isn't really that hidden, but I like the name I gave it. It's actually about ten feet from the pullout.

  • Bison in Snow

    Bison in Snow

A pickup truck had spun out, causing a road closure and a long traffic delay. As we were waiting for the road to reopen, these bison walked by, just a few yards from the car. An early snow the night before gave the September landscape a wintry appearance.

  • Menacing Bison

    Menacing Bison

Visitors are cautioned to stay 25 yards away from all wildlife and 100 yards away from bears and wolves. This bison was closer than that (just off the road) but we remained in our car and did not try to approach the animal.

Our friend, John, enjoying his extra large cup of coffee.

  • Saguaro, Life and Death

    Saguaro, Life and Death

It took a while to find this photogenic combination of healthy and dead saguaros.

  • The Road to Fort Huachuca

    The Road to Fort Huachuca

We were driving from Tucson to Sierra Vista. Processing this in black and white emphasized the desolation of this landscape.

  • TWA Constellation

    TWA Constellation

This was taken at the Pima Air and Space Museum, Tucson. I always liked the Constellation. It was a beautiful design, instantly recognizable.

  • Misson San Xavier Courtyard

    Misson San Xavier Courtyard

I felt that the monochrome processing and the symmetry gave this photo a serious mood.

  • Setting Moon and Mountains

    Setting Moon and Mountains

The monochrome version of this scene is, to me, just as interesting as the color version.

  • Firehole River, Early Morning

    Firehole River, Early Morning

Cool morning air condenses the vapor from hot springs to create this steamy landscape.

  • Tumbleweed In Slot Canyon

    Tumbleweed In Slot Canyon

I'm not sure if these tumbleweeds haphazardly drop into slot canyons, or if they are placed here and there by the guides. Either way, they provide a nice contrast to the sandstone walls.

  • Thumb Formation with Dead Tree

    Thumb Formation with Dead Tree

Including the tree was an attempt to provide some visual interest since the sky was plain, cloudless, and cobalt blue.
