McWay Falls with Naked Lady Flowers

Located about 30 miles south of Carmel, McWay Falls is one of the most photogenic spots on the Big Sur coast. The water drops about 80 feet directly into the Pacific. A photo similar to this was used as the cover for an AAA California map. The flowers make the image a little more unique than typical, and the late light gives the landscape a nice, warm glow.

Churning Surf through Elephant Rock

I like backlighting on anything that's a little translucent. In this case, the warm light from the setting sun gave the misty surf the appearance of boiling gold.

Teton Sunrise

The first rays of the sun light up the higher peaks of the Tetons while the lower slopes remain shadowed, creating this contrast between brilliant color and muted hues.

God beams, Oxbow Bend

"Blue hour" refers to the time when the sun is below the horizon and there is neither full daylight or complete darkness. This causes a blue cast in color photographs.

The "golden hour" refers to the period just after sunrise or just before sunset when the sunllight becomes redder and softer than during midday.
