This view is from one of the resting points on the slightly long and somewhat steep trail to the beach.

Cape Flattery Trail Viewpoint

A trail reminiscent of "Lord of the Rings" scenery leads to this overlook. I found the spot to be mysterious and moody, while simultaneously being lush and lovely.

I caught this scene at the last light, which bathed the cliffs in gold.

This wonderfully intense pink light lasted for about 30 seconds.

This photographer ignored the "Do Not Go Beyond This Sign" warnings. I was waiting for a sneaker wave to wash him out to sea, but he made it back up to the parking area. It would be great if I could see the photos he took, but I didn't get his name.

Churning Surf through Elephant Rock

I like backlighting on anything that's a little translucent. In this case, the warm light from the setting sun gave the misty surf the appearance of boiling gold.

It took some maneuvering to catch the setting sun in this notch before it dropped below the horizon.

I liked how the two people near the end of the beach gave this scene a sense of scale.

I like to photograph through window-like objects to emphasize something in the background. Without the beachcomber this photo would be terribly dull.

McWay Falls with Naked Lady Flowers

Located about 30 miles south of Carmel, McWay Falls is one of the most photogenic spots on the Big Sur coast. The water drops about 80 feet directly into the Pacific. A photo similar to this was used as the cover for an AAA California map. The flowers make the image a little more unique than typical, and the late light gives the landscape a nice, warm glow.
